A Resolution has been Passed by Bengal Assembly

Yesterday in Kolkata, a resolution has been passed by the West Bengal Assembly stating that Centre Government should withdraw their decision to link Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme to Aadhar Card.

This resolution has been passed due to the circumstantial issues faced by the Bengal Government. As per Partha Chatterjee, Affairs Minister of West Bengal, mentioned in the Parliament that only 15 % of Bengal citizens have received their Aadhar Cards, so linking of DBT scheme to Aadhar will adversely affect the remaining 85 % people of Bengal and would not be able to avail 9 subsidised gas (LPG) cylinders.

Interestingly, Surya Kanta Mishra, leader of Opposition as well the member of CPI (M), have also supported the resolution passed by the ruling party. They have also said that there are many issues related to Aadhar Card which are yet to be resolved. He also added that the entire process was not scientific and there are 20% chances of marginal error in Aadhar Cards so Central Government should not make biometric enrolment mandatory.
